Yesterday was a mission. One single question: who owns this piece of land? The city, or the Government of Puerto Rico?
I got up at the crack of dawn so I'd be first in line. None of that showing up at 5 PM asking somebody to help me. At 3 PM I was still in Caguas, going from office to office, and still no answer. That's when I said: pa'l carajo, I'll try another day.
I got home, threw myself on the bed and went to sleep. I didn't want to think about anything. For the first time I felt defeated. Empty. Mentally drained.
I woke up around 9 PM, ate something and went back to work. Pissed off, but working.
And I gave myself my own therapy session: "Coño, this is why people don't get things done. This is why houses aren't registered. This is why people just leave things the way they are." Now I get everybody's frustration.
And if your family's house isn't registered either, this is what's waiting for you: days going from office to office, with no answer. And if you live in the States, forget it.
That's why I do it. I stand in that line for my clients, so you don't have to get on a plane to go through this.
So I made it a mission. I'm going to tell you about every roadblock the bureaucracy throws at me when I help a client register their property. A series: how many days does it take to register an inherited house that was never registered?
Stay tuned, because it's coming. And if your inherited house was never registered either, right below I left you where to start.
